City Airport Manchester (Barton) has engaged MetEngUK to supply, install and commission a range of state-of-the-art meteorological systems based on Vaisala’s new WID511 and WID513 Digital Weather displays.

MetEngUK has provided calibration and engineering support for the meteorological systems at Barton for around a decade, and was pleased to be awarded the contract to upgrade the systems, and install additional sensors to measure surface wind, atmospheric pressure, air temperature and relative humidity.

The image shows a Metspec MET21 radiation shield housing the new Vaisala HMP155 temperature/humidity sensor, with the Grade II listed Control Tower Building in the background. Laying the new ducting and cables in hard, sun-baked ground during July 2018 presented a something of a challenge, but the whole installation was successfully completed within the two days allotted.
